Why a Fairy &
Greenman Costume Contest?
To better connect
and have more fun with the fairies ... why else!
 |
How
to be a fae
The Fae realms include
many mystical beings, both male and female. One only needs to look at the
vast world of fairy art to see the many differences of the fae world. |
| Tinkerbell has become
the popular portrayal of modern fairies. Though fairies, such as Tinkerbell
are common, lesser known members of fae family are mermaids, gargoyles,
gnomes, goblins, pixies, elves, brownies and basically, any nature spirit
including the green men. Masculine feminine, neither, both and everything
in-between can be fairy. |
 |
 |
These male aspect
of the fairy realms were populated by movies and books, such as the lovable
Hobbits of the Shire in Lord of the Rings as well as the abrasive elves.
Even Harry Potter had the house fairy.
My Personal Favorite
is Yoda from Star Wars. I fully believe Yoda is a fae being. |
| Be it male, female
or androgynous species, the Fae worlds are more popular then ever.
Through celebrations of the nature spirits, we hope to bring ourselves
a little closer to our own joy, that is the reason we have the Fairy and
Greenman Costume Contests at the Tropical Fairy Festival. |
 |
 |
At the Tropical
Fairy festival we have seperate contest for boys, girls, women and men.
All contests are
open for both men and women, though we understand that the Fairy Costume
contest will be more populated by the Ladies, while most men will will
opt for the more Masculine figure of the greenmen. |
| The Greenman is
often represented as a masculine being all clad in green leaves and tree
bark, with a face covered in oak leaves.
In the fall he sometimes
turns colors of orange, yellow and red, with brown as the main undertone,
but se still call him greenman, as we know his green will return with the
spring. |
 |
 |
The Greenman, not
unlike the winged fairies, is that spirit, energy or presence, inherent
in every cell of the vegetative realm, and mans spiritual link to nature
and the earth.
The Fae are not quite
human and they are not quite animal, they inhabit the realms of the in
between and mesmerize the inhabitants of both the spirit and the physical
worlds. |
| They are not evil,
nor are they pure good, they are again, the realms of in between and as
such they are reflected in our light as much as in our shadow selves. |
 |
The Fae are a capricious,
joy loving, emotionally driven race that reminds us to be merry and celebrate
the beauty of our planet as it is available to us all.
Put on your
Fairy Best and join us at the Fairy Festival!
